Day 357
Dogs make a house a home. We have only just begun the joyful venture of owning a small lake cottage. The fence was completed yesterday, so the Goldens can now enjoy lake life!
As I watched our two elders claim their new "home-away-from-home," I pondered as to exactly what makes four walls feel like it is a place to hang your hat (or dog leashes).
As I have a cup of coffee and gaze out at the lake, I realize that dogs are essential to making this place a home. Ranger is lying at my feet, wagging his tail now and then, while Lilly gazes out the sliding glass doors at the lake. (The other two babies stayed home since we are only here for a couple hours.) The presence of my Goldens brings such peace and security and I can literally feel the love flowing between us.
We have been bringing things from home, although this little place came completely furnished, and I am comforted by the additions. Pictures, lamps, soft blankets, pillows and other homey items have been strewn around to add comfort. Sentimental treasures have a place of honor already!
Music plays from the radio and there are already wonderful smells from the kitchen! Cookbooks are ready to be explored and charming coffee cups are ready for a chat with future visits from loved ones.
Books, magazines and games are only an arm's reach or a few steps away from any chair or sofa. A quilt rack is at the ready, loaded with lovely warmth if snuggles are needed.
Already, there are a few toys scattered around from Asher visits. They make my heart smile. He has already claimed "His Room" and would move in today if he could!
We have only begun to make memories in this place, but already our visits are the start of many smiles and heart-warming moments.
After some thought, here are the necessities for a loving home...in my humble opinion:
