Day 218
12/19/22
We all have our "safe places" where we go when the world becomes overwhelming or we simply need to feel the comfort and calm of being protected. Today, son Jimmy and I were so fortunate to visit the "safe place" for our sweet rescue, Lady Di!
Old Barkers Farm Senior Dog Sanctuary is a place of safety and love. The head of this amazing refuge is dear Charlean who is such an angel to her four-legged family of vagabonds who have found their way into her heart and home. From various backgrounds, these senior dogs have discovered, or rediscovered, what it is like to be truly loved, cherished and protected.
When we reached out to Charlean, regarding a golden in our area who needed a safe home, this amazing woman drove to The Big White House to meet our Golden charge. When she walked into our backyard, our rescue went to her as if she had loved her for her entire life. It was beautiful and I still tear up when I remember that special day. Now, the Princess is happy, loved, warm, treasured, entertained and "safe." Along with her elderly brothers and sisters, she can just be a dog and not worry about anything else other than being happy.
We all have that "safe place" where we retreat to feel the protection and calm only found there. For me, it is my home. It can also be in the arms of loved ones (especially my sweet husband). There, I can find the calm to think, react or simply process life. I hope I provide that safe place to my loved ones as well.
For Princess Di, the overwhelming love and security found at the Refuge has made her into a new dog. She is confident, active, secure, warm, fed and SAFE. While we were there, her tail never stopped wagging. Bless you, Charlean. When your senior pups look at you with love in their eyes, I just know they see your angel wings.
