Day 160

10/21/22

Gus has a girlfriend in Colorado! These two "text" almost every day and the results are rich with humor! The pictures today show sunrises in Anoka and Colorado...I think the Colorado one was the winner!

One of my best, oldest friends grew up next door to me. We are "close" in age, our families were "close" and Jim and I stayed "close" through the years! He moved to Colorado, built a massive log home in the mountains and enjoys his three Goldens! (The picture today shows his "hot tub hut," greenhouse and the goat chalet.) This friendship is a cherished gift, but it has recently morphed into our two dogs writing as friends!

Gus and Aubry have shared their adventures, hints to deal with older Goldens in the household and how to get rid of Sam! Gus liked being the baby of the family so he shares sinister plots with his girlfriend in Colorado. She had a few ideas of her own! For example:

Gus: Aubry! The Squeak Toy comes home on September 13th! I can't wait to find the Squeak and get it out of the Stuffy!

Aubry: Gus! When you escape from your home to come live with us, bring the squeaker!

Gus: Aubry, Oh, he is here! Everyone thinks he is SO cute! I guess he is kinda OK...but he gets too much attentions!! Do you want him?

Aubry: NO! I don't want him! Hide him! You deserve ALL of the attention!

The texting goes on, but we find a way to intersperse our own daily lives and events through our pups. It is a creative, fun way to keep in touch!

Staying in touch with friends is a challenge worth the effort. I am constantly in awe of the friends in my life. They are amazing people from all walks of life and an extremely diverse group. These amazing individuals range from 30-year-old former students to teachers I have had in my own life (Jan J., you are my favorite!). Some of them have been friends since childhood while others have been a gift along the way. Age has no friendship boundaries for me as I cherish those I visit on Therapy Dog Visits to senior residents (most in their 80's and 90's). Others include fellow teachers and professors, neighbors, fellow dog-lovers, writers, crafters...the list is eclectic and I love each and every one of them!

I believe that I am most smitten with the fact that these friends do not have to put up with me! Friendship is a choice. Once made, those friendships need to be nourished, attended to and honored. Each is like a beautiful piece of jewelry that is unique and admired. I never take any of them for granted!

Now Gus and Aubry...their love and attention for one-another might just make them Besties for life! If Jim and I can just figure out how to set up a play date they will have it made!
