Day 124
9/15/22
This boy! We are all so in love with Sam! Everyone who meets him simply melts when they hold this real-life teddy bear! (I am not so sure Ranger, Lilly and Gus feel the same way, but they understand he needs a little piece of their love right now.)
Watching beautiful interactions with family, neighbors and friends, along with reflecting on my love as well, I started to compare him to a new human baby:
*Both are SOOOO cute!
*Both smell wonderful...most of the time!
*Both can be held and snuggled.
*Both look right into your heart with their bright little eyes!
*Both need protection.
*Both are reliant on others for EVERYTHING!
And the list could go on forever!
Why are we wired to adore, protect and unconditionally love these little things? That is where my mind wandered today. On the one hand, we protect on some ancient level, so that the species continues...that would be what scientist/actor son Jimmy would say.
On another level, we seem to be drawn to little beings that need us and we love without question. Puppies and dogs seem to continue that line of protective love, but humans lose some of that along their path to adulthood.
What if we continued to love at the level we offer to new babies or puppies? I realize it would be exhausting, but it could be a goal at some level. Even if we tried, on a small scale, to look at those around us with a pure love without expectations or condemnations, it might make the world a little better place...
I, for one, am going to look at my interactions like I might look at a new puppy. No expectations for the face in front of my eyes, but simply an open heart and mind.
It might just work. Now, if everyone simply carried a puppy or baby around with them, I guarantee it would work! Just imagine that world!
