Day 1014
Sometimes, we gather more things than we are able to enjoy! Poor Gus...he probably was trying to make sure that, when Sammy inevitably grabs his brother's bone, Gus will have a spare!
In my studio, there is enough yarn to make a sweater for The Big White House! Knitting and crocheting calm my spirit, but the vast amount of skeins heighten my blood pressure! During the Pandemic, I actually cleaned out some of the "horde," but there is still enough to keep my fingers nimble for years to come!
Why do we "over-gather" things? My dear parents, and many others out there, went through the Great Depression and NEVER threw anything away. My mom's paper bag collection was legendary! Growing up in that environment, my mindset was formed. Still...ten cans of tomato soup in the Hoosier? Not necessary!
People gather, collect and keep things for a variety of reasons. The real question becomes, "How do you pare a plethora of treasures down to a manageable quantity? That is the crux of the matter!
For me, finding a good home for "things" is my saving grace. If someone appreciates a treasure of mine, then we both come out happy. My own children now hesitate to pick up an item and say, "Mom, that is something special." My quick reply is, "Take it! I would love to know it went to a good home!" Although it seldom works, I keep trying!
So, if you need yarn, teddy bears, children's books or any number of other items from my home, give me a call! The only hoarding I will not give up is my Goldens...you can NEVER have too many of those!
